The Church of the Morning After
I was honored to have been welcomed into this fun group of local musicians and occasional visitors to Stonington, ME. The group has gathered every Sunday morning for a long, long, time. When I sat in, the venue was an old lobster fishing gear repair store. We’d sit on huge piles of ropes, chairs, boxes and when no sitting room was available, we’d stand and play. The core group are real “Mainers” and have wonderful stories to tell and all love to share their music with anyone who’d pass by the open door of the shop.
It was full every Sunday with standing room outside the door. In the summer, there were always people standing and tapping their toes or clapping their hands. Sadly, the shop owner passed away. Now, the “Church” plays in venues that will accommodate them on Sunday mornings. When I joined, most members did not know mountain music well, but they cheerfully joined in and the video says the rest.
Peter Knight recorded this video, a family friend, and the venue is at the Deer Isle, ME library porch. In many ways, I would love to be able to join them, once again.
