Bagaduce ME Equine Rescue Concert
The story begins with two of my friends. Rick Nestler from NY and Rik Paliari from Burlington VT. Both had sailed with Pete Seeger on the sloop, Clearwater, to clean up the Hudson River. I invited them to stay with us at our home in Brooksville, ME, and play at the Fundraising Concert for the Center. I also asked local musicians and friends to join, as well. Pictured are Rik Palieri, Rick and Donna Nestler, Lin and Ann Parker, Curtis Brand, and Mike and Susie Fay.
The Bagaduce River Equine Rescue Center is a labor of love for Kelly Saunders, her family, and many friends in Brooksville, ME. I had a home not too far from her and would occasionally drive over to see the spectacular recovery of some very mistreated horses that she bought and was helping recover and find new homes. Having had horses of my own when I was a kid, they had a place in my heart.
Well, the weather prediction was rain. Rain, rain, go away and hold off till another day. We got part of what we asked for. We held the concert. The finale was Goodnight Irene and two minutes after the concert there came a gully washer.
Rik Paliari is an expert on the Navajo flute, having learned directly from members of the Navajo tribe. He shared a tune with the audience. Enjoy!
