Flatfooting

Rhiannon Giddens is a national treasure. On her journey to stardom, she played with the Carolina Chocolate Drops. They were headlining the Pickin’ In The Pines festival in Flagstaff, AZ. Rhiannon walked into our banjo workshop, and I asked her to flatfoot for the folks. She is flatfooting barefooted on a rug. Friends, that’s a rough row to hoe.

Chris Janke was first Bill’s friend, then mine. At the Glendale AZ Folk Festival, Bill and I were performing and Chris was in the audience. I asked her if she would show people how to flatfoot. She can really flatfoot the mountain style, as you can plainly see.
