Choosing what you decide to study in college can have a significant impact on your job prospects and salary package. It’d be great if we all could take classes in only what interests us; however, in today’s overly competitive job market, certain degrees stand out on a resume more than others and get you to the top of the stack.

College Degrees That Get You Noticed

Employers ranked those degrees that catch the eyes of human resources personnel. Fred Coon, founder and CEO of Stewart, Cooper & Coon, was quoted in the #6 degree, Electrical Engineering. He mentions the combination of math, physics and science courses needed in order to succeed in this major, a challenging endeavor for any individual but one that can get you employment when you graduate.

The other five hot majors that employers are looking for include Finance, Computer Science, Accounting, Mechanical Engineering, and Business Administration/Management. This list clearly shows where the current professional and executive positions are. Granted you might not have a passion for analyzing numbers or overseeing a stock portfolio, but if you can see yourself challenged and enjoying the coursework for one of these majors, it’d be worth it to explore it for your career health and success. There a variety of industries hiring for graduates of these programs, so don’t be narrow sighted when thinking about the jobs available with one of these degrees.Explore college degrees

As Fred mentions about Electrical Engineering, which applies to the others as well, the versatility of the course work and the individual completing one of these degrees makes a marketable candidate for numerous jobs. Get creative with the skills and expertise you can glean from these studies and your ideal job might just be waiting for after you walk across that stage for your diploma.
